多倫多星報集團提出經營線上幸運博彩
持有加拿大柒拾多份報章,包括多倫多星報(Toronto Star),加拿大星島日報的多倫多星報集團(Torstar)向安大略省政府提出,修正規章開放博彩市場,容許以經營線上幸運博彩收益,彌補媒體廣告收益下跌引致的損失,藉以延續報章生存.多倫多星報集團宣稱可防止當地資金流失至境外博彩業者,還可以創造職位.事實上網絡媒體崛起攤薄報業廣告收益,搜尋引擎和社交媒體被指控濫用報館,電台和電視台提供的資訊牟利.
但不少讀者認為此舉違背報章創立時方針,損害新聞公正.
