On 23rd December, Transport for London has announced that Wrightbus have won the contract to build the "New Bus for London". 5 pre-production examples are due in 2011, and they will feature 3 doors, 2 staircases, open platform at the back (closed off at times, such as at night), hybrid technology and reduced emissions.
Finally is Wrightbus to design and build these monsters...
3 doors (incl. the rear platform) plus 2 staircases will use up much of the space in both decks. The bus should be a long wheelbase one, but the capacity can be as low as 87 as required by TfL...
Just wait and see when the concept becomes reality, hope Wrightbus can surprise us
That was a design concept competition. This contract is to use that concept as the basis to develop an actual vehicle, and then build it. ADL was not part of the winning concept design, it was one of the candidate who could (and didn't) win the development contract.
Can foresee a great deal of used double-deckers ending up in scrapyards
in around 2018-2020...
I'm sure the reselling market of these weird things is even smaller than the
used London Bendis...
