By the Mayor of London order, all articlated buses are to be replaced. many ahead of time, by double deck buses.
Here is route 73- operating by Arriva:
first photo- the old order- an articulated citaro bus- MA74.
then the replacements:
the replacements are VDL/DAF chassis integrated Wright buses [i.e. chassis is by VDF, Wright put in a cummins engine] - the DW class
and some hybrid buses: wright bodied Volvo 'B5' - the HV class;
as not all the DWs were delivered on time, existing Wright bodied volvo 'B7' buses are also in use- the VWL class.
all photos were taken at Islington Angel, roughly at the same angle, so you can easily compare!
pls note DW454- brand new '61' registration, HV33 and VWL109
ah, you are right! their 'nickname' in London- applying to all of the Wright bodied volvo vehices is: weevils!: Lol : Lol : Lol
even within the Go Ahead fleet, the short [10n long] volvos are known as WVL, but the longer 10.6 machines [from east thames buses] are known as VLW.

Nope... The long ones with Go-Ahead are VWL - as if it was not comfusing enough!
