If there are all private cars on the roads, who cares??
Just let them get stuck on the roads and never reach their destination.
Now, the magic comes.
When it takes much much longer to their destination by driving, people will simply leave their cars at home.
People can't afford the time, especially for those who can afford to buy a car.
Hiring a taxi is a more popular choice among the rich. You know why??
A taxi can drop you off almost at where you want to go without any hurdles.
If you drive, you have to fight for a parking spot, plan ahead when you will leave, queue up to feed the car, walk a long way from the parking to your final destination (sometimes up to 10 minutes) or use those parking towers which take you ages to drive in and then walk out dizzily.
Nowadays who can afford these time and hurdles??
These are all the reasons why public transports are almost the first choice of travelling for majority Hong Kong people, as reflected from the high percentage of PT use (>95%).
Any evidence to support your idea??
Especially please state which part(s) of Hong Kong experience "公共交通選擇減少"??
I only know the capacity of PT keeps expanding in recent years, due to the opening of serveral new railways.

如果睇番近幾個月甚至幾年0既運輸署登記車輛數字報表www.hkitalk.net# _& I! n( C4 ?4 K# A
私家車數目一直有增無減 但公共交通車輛數目反而企硬甚至縮水
Hey, at what rate does the number of private cars grow?? How about the growth on public transport patronage??
If the private car growth rate equal to the PT patronage growth rate,
it can be concluded that the private car growth is driven by natural city growth.
And, most importantly, people owning a car doesn't mean they have to drive it to work.
