Seconds count in a fast-paced society like Hong Kong. I am not advocating people rushing for doors, but the former format fails to highlight the most important facts in a concise way. This can be achieved by using a different color actually.

When people are on the move, its not that they are not bothered to read the displays, it is because they are in a hurry. MTR managed to aggravate this situation by boasting Hong Kong railway systems' worst frequency on the TCL. So "HK's worst frequency" + "a shoddy primitive display" is terribly frustrating to commuters.

而且，小弟完全唔明白月台既 PIDS 同 "advocating people rushing for doors"（鼓勵乘客衝門）有可直接關係？如果列車到達，根本對乘客乘客衝門沒有直接關係，見到列車關門，都無時間去睇 PIDS（正如閣下既 "Seconds count in a fast-paced society like Hong Kong"），睇黎閣下論點又唔太合邏輯！？除非你係指大堂既 PIDS，乘客睇完之後就會走去衝門。（不過這好似係 LAR PIDS 優點之一）

你都識話 "When people are on the move"（如果我無解錯，個"move"係指佢地行緊），加上月台有大把人，一路行一路睇 PIDS 好似有少少危險；加上，佢地都上緊車，根本無需要再睇 PIDS，何來 "because they are in a hurry" 呢？如果你係指佢地準備登車，仲有列車仲有幾分鐘到達，又點會 "in a hurry" 呢？

Train systems in USA are even worse in this regard. They have abbreviations for station names, a bunch of incomprehensible mumble jumble that visitors find confusing. The minutes to arrival countdown display is the same as new TCL system for most American subways, with no such frills as "Time left" found on WR displays. A prime example is WMATA in D.C. www.wmata.com
小弟又想問，美國係用 "abbreviations"（縮寫）又點？似乎同用全名既東涌線 PIDS 無關係，更加唔會因為咁而令到 Visitors 感到困擾。而且 "arrive in X minutes"（LAR PIDS）唔會比 "Due Time"（WR PIDS，個 "Due Time" 仲要係 table）清楚？這些邏輯思維會引致 LAR PIDS 係差、令人困擾，我真係有少少驚。
But if you have "Train for Tung Chung...", a complete sentence with the destination buried somewhere inside this orange sentence with no highlighting of 1) destination and 2) time, then comprehension will be compromised for non-English speakers, and for English speakers the time required to read the sentence can be critical when the train doors close in 5 seconds and the passenger had to pause in front of the sign trying to read whether it goes to TC or TY.
Same goes for our friends in Mainland. They have to pick out the traditional characters word by word but if only the destination is displayed, then it's much easier.
無錯，每種 PIDS 顯示方式各有好處，不過小弟重點只係針著，究竟 LAR PIDS 顯示資料中，係一段文字要尋找資訊有幾難？
當然，以一個香港人黎講，習慣左總會用最快方法搵想要既資訊，係依個角度而言，未免有部份香港人認為 LAR PIDS 有部份資訊係阻礙佢地接收資訊（每人價值觀都唔同）。不過，身為香港人，幾分鐘無野做只係花幾秒，連一段文字都唔去睇，除非佢係懶人、真係疲倦或有特殊問題，而不能順行閱讀，否則根本唔會構成「好難」既問題。
