I have never driven a bus, so I think we need some bus driver (HK or oversea) to give us some comments regarding buses on highway.
To be honest, in order to surive on highway, very simple, give yourself enough breaking distance between you and the car in front of you, also maintain your speed with traffic flow.
Everytime when I am riding long distance coach oversea or in China, I always question why HK has to set the speed limit of 70 km/h for all buses on highway. In US or Canada, it is very common to see coaches and trucks run as fast as the passenger cars, which is around the speed limit (about 55-70mph). When they are speeding they are very scary, but this is the reality, the speed limit for all vehicles are the same, and I don't see any problem. It is because it can prevent car switching lanes to pass the the slow vehicle. Having all buses and truck running 70km/h on a 100km/h limit highway means these vehicles will block at least 1 or 2 lanes. Passenger car needs to stay on the middle lane all the time or they will need to switch lane very often. If you are going up hill, that's another story, like the Tuen Mun HWY. However, for instance, for Route 3 and the Airport Highway, I think the 30/40 km gap between turcks, bus and passengers car are too big. That's why in US, some highway also have min speed limit to ensure all traffics are running with the traffic flow.
This is just come comment from a car driver. It will be better if someone is on the Cicil Eng field give us some of their thoughts.
