There isn't a lot in Nelson. If you want some pictures
of the X43, you are much better of doing it outside the
Burnley bus station.
The routing of X43 is, I think, one of the best amongs
any bus service in this country. It has everything, just
as you point out like motorway (M66), country road etc.
The only downside is, it can get pretty crowded... The
journey time itself is average for an interurban route,
in fact it's just about half of some of the routes I have
done in the past.
These Geminis are actually much more suitable than
the Presidents they had on X43 before. I'm not saying
the Presidents were poor - those B7TLs are fine buses,
but they are limited to around 52mph, while the Geminis
are limited to 60mph, and that makes quite a difference
on the M66.
Well, they have a 6-speed gearbox, and that climb on the M66 northbound is quite a lot steeper than it looks (and it's very long too), so actually it is not too bad. Maybe it's because the B7s are so quiet that it doesn't feel like it has the omph they actually have.

Those 6-speed B7TLs got the extra gear only to give them a better turn of speed, which suits them better for interurban service like the X43. The 5-speed B7TLs can do around 52mph nominally, whilst the 6-speed B7TL is capable to do 59+mph. The difference is not a lot, but the additional speed gives a fair bit of flexibility in these operations, esp overtaking lorry traffic.
One other thing is the X43 drivers are not quick, because of time-keeping, and the X43 timetable does give them a lot of time to spare. With a few exceptions, most X43 I encountered are not really, put it this way, mad.
For a quick B7TLs though, what you ought to go after are those with Yorkshire Coastliner. The buses and routes themselves are magnificant.

I second that! I got the (only?) double deck departure for Whitby and that was a great ride!
Here's my pics for Yorkshire Coastliner, Burnley & Pendle and Lancashire United Geminis
