Less get the facts straight - the choice of bodywork is not down to the chassis manufacturer, it's the operators. From what I heard, ADL charges a premium for bodying the E400 on other chassis to protect the market share of the Trident chassis, which explains why much of the B9TLs are bodied by Wrightbus and, to a lesser extend, Darwen/Optare. Of course, Wrightbus and Volvo has a very close partnership, which makes it the more preferred choice in most cases because its price is more competitive.
As evident back in the days of B7TL, Volvo would be more than happy to have it built on ADL bodywork. They do not hold any shares on Wrightbus. Whether the B9TL is built on a bodywork by ADL, or Wrightbus, or Optare, or very soon, MCV, has no bearing to their profit whatsoever.
As I have already said, a London-spec B9TL/Gemini 2 as it stands is 600kg heavier than the latest London-spec E400. However we are comparing with a E400 that is shorter (10.1m vs 10.4m on the B9TL), with a smaller engine and smaller fuel tank. The HK-spec E400, being longer, and having a bigger engine, will cut its weight advantage by a significant margin. I suspect a 2-axle B9TL, built to HK-spec, will still be heavier, but only by up to 300kg.
The ban applies to all Volvo product in those years, and it generally affects the B7L range (specifically B7TL). The 2-axle B9TL has a different radiator than the B7TL (and the existing HK B9TLs) and do not suffer the same issue as I know. The noise you are on about is exactly that - In fact it is the same noise as the B10TL, since the latter type also has the same radiator.
S3N92: The ban only applies to London Buses contracted services. That's why during the ban, Big Bus, Arriva The Original Tour and First could order and put B9TLs on the road - Greenlnk 702 is not a LB contracted service.
For E400 bodywork on B7TL, there is only one - That vehicle is not an Arriva vehicle (or in that colour ever), but with Go-Ahead's Solent Blueline. All other E400 body built on Volvo chassis are on the B9TL type.
