LU2001---A Park Island 11.3m Dart with ISB 6L engine and Voith transmission.
Its chassis code is SFD4D9GR37GW49061
LX58BZY---A Selkent 10.7m Enviro 200 Dart
Its chassis code is SFD361AR28GY10728
All I can guess is that the first three digits [SFD] means [Super low Floor Dart].
The last 5 digits is the serial number of the chassis model.
What do the codes in between mean?
I would like to know if I can find the length/engine/transmission types out from these codes.
I am really interested to know if there is any Dart in the UK that uses the Voith transmission.
This combination of Dart/Voith is just one of my favorite!
Please kindly fix my mistakes if there are anything wrong
Lets take SFD4D9GR37GW49061.
SF-Country Code for United Kingdom
D-Dennis Specialist Vehicles/Alexander Dennis
4D9GR-Vehicle attridbutes-ie body style or engine type, don't know much about this.
3-Check Digit, computed using the other numbers of the VIN
7-Year Manufactured-2007
G-Probably plant code
W-Probably series code
49061-Serial number within the particular series
NB: This may not be accurate as different manufacturers use different ways to compute their VINs for different vehicles.
The 4th digit specifies the length of the model, 5th for the engine type and rating, and 6th for the transmission system used on the vehicle. This system applies to all Dennis/Transbus/ADL vehicles built from mid-90s and the codes are independent for each type. For example, the code SFD112, applying to different types, mean:
In the case of LU2001, the code would be:
SFD
4 - 11.3m
D - Cummins ISBe 6-cylinder 220bhp rating
9 - Voith (whatever transmission it is using)
You cannot use the E200Dart as a comparison because ADL has reset the VIN series completely from the chassis Dart SLF - the transmission code i.e. 6th digit "1", means completely different transmission systems in the two types.
