Breaking news this morning is UK transport group Arriva has agreed to the takeover bid by German national rail giant Deutsche Bahn. The move has been speculated for a few months and this is the biggest foreign takeover of a transport group in the UK.
First and Stagecoach really need to gear up then after this 3rd biggest operator being taken over.
The dynamic of the UK bus industry may remain the same in short term, but the UK rail market may face substantial changes.
This all depends how active the DB group is to expand outside its domestic market..
But 1 thing out of interest, does this step stragtegically make sense at all? How much synergy can they really generate?
Perhaps some for the UK rail, but I wonder how much they can be benefited for the UK bus division.

Is DB a state owned or a private company??
It is a private joint stock holding company (AG), privatised in 1994.
As for the question for acquiring Arriva has any benefit to the business, one should not forget that Arriva has a very significant presence in continental Europe, in fact the largest amongst the UK so called "Big 5".
