70 years ago, the first members of the RT family were built: by the time the programme finished in 1954, 4825 RTs 1631RTLs and 500 RTWs were built.
RT8 was built in 1940 and entered service on route 22. it was withdrawn from service by the late 1950s, and was shipped to the USA in the early 60s.
Ensigns bought the vehicle and restored it to it's former glory.

RT1 is now owned by Cobham Bus Museum Trust; the third pre war RT surviving is RT113.
However, the story of RT1 is a complicated one! In fact, RT1 has the chassis belonging to RT19 and parts of bodywork from other machines- so amongst the 'very traditional' RT bus fans, RT1 is referred to as "RT1" and not RT1..
